Glass Options
Simonton Windows & Doors offers a range of glass options designed to enhance energy efficiency, comfort, and durability for their extensive selection of window types, including Awning, Casement, Double Hung, Single Hung, Sliding Horizontal, Fixed Frame, Specialty, Transoms, Garden, Bay & Bow, Hopper, and Picture windows.
The primary glass offering is Simonton's Low-E glass, which is a standard feature across many of their product lines. Low-E (low-emissivity) glass has a microscopically thin, transparent coating that reflects infrared light (heat). This means it helps keep heat inside your home during the winter and outside during the summer, contributing to reduced energy bills and a more comfortable living environment year-round.
Beyond the standard Low-E glass, Simonton provides several advanced glass packages that build upon this technology to offer further benefits:
- ProSolar™ Low-E Glass: This option is engineered to reflect solar heat gain more effectively. It is particularly beneficial in warmer climates or on windows that receive direct sunlight, helping to significantly reduce cooling costs.
- ProSolar™ Shade Low-E Glass: Similar to ProSolar™ Low-E, this glass also focuses on reducing solar heat gain. It offers a balance between blocking heat and allowing visible light to pass through.
- ProSolar™ SunView Low-E Glass: This advanced glass package is designed to provide superior protection against solar heat gain while maintaining excellent clarity and visible light transmission. It is an ideal choice for maximizing comfort and minimizing the impact of harsh sun.
To further enhance performance, Simonton's insulated glass units can be configured with different configurations:
- Double-Pane Glass: This standard configuration consists of two panes of glass separated by a spacer, creating an insulating air gap.
- Triple-Pane Glass: For maximum energy efficiency, Simonton offers triple-pane glass. This involves three panes of glass with two insulating gaps, providing superior thermal performance and noise reduction compared to double-pane windows.
The insulating gaps within the double and triple-pane units can be filled with either:
- Inert Gas: Argon or Krypton gas can be used to fill the space between the glass panes. These gases are denser than air and act as better insulators, further improving the U-factor (a measure of heat transfer) of the window.
Simonton also offers decorative glass options to add aesthetic appeal and privacy to windows. These include:
- Obscure Glass: This textured glass diffuses light and obscures visibility, making it suitable for bathrooms, entryways, and other areas where privacy is desired.
- Etched Glass: Offers a frosted or patterned appearance, providing a decorative element and varying degrees of privacy.
- Textured Glass: A broad category that encompasses various patterns and finishes, allowing for unique design applications and light diffusion.
For specific product lines, Simonton may offer additional specialized glass features, such as laminated glass for enhanced security and sound dampening, or tempered glass for safety applications where breakage could occur.
